What PCOS treatment is best after successful fertilty & birth?

I don't know how to phrase this, but my situation is this: I have had successful fertility treatments and now have 3 wonderful kids (5 yr girl and 2yr boy/girltwins) When I ask my doctors what PCOS treatment if best for me, they always want to put me on birth control pills - no other options are offered. I just turned 40, and I don't want to be on the pill anymore, but I do want to control the symptoms of PCOS.

All the information I have read about metformin is related to treating infertility, which is no longer a concern of mine. Is metformin therapy OK for me?

Thanks for your help
