I don't know the nature of your son's medical problems, but I was wondering if you have any family or friends nearby who could stay with him while you are away? I know many people in that type of situation. My husband and I were leaders in the ministry our former church has for mentally and physically challenged children and adults, and that's usually how many of them with very ill children are able to do things that present a problem like that. Perhaps there is someone that you can trust to help you in that way? My concern for you is that even when you find a doctor who WANTS to help, many times they may not know what the best thing is to do. I've read post after post from ladies, like myself, who have gone years without effective treatment, because they didn't know that their doctor was not doing what they could if they knew more about the better treatments and methods. I am going to make that trip to Cincinnati next month. I have a doc with the best of intentions, and experience with only the outdated treatments for PCOS. Though his intentions are very good, he has been able to offer me no real help for the last 7 years. He certainly understands my desire to get the best treatment I can. Though I do not know what challenges you face in your situation, I do feel that since the health risks are so great in NOT having the most effective care for this, it might be in your child's best interest for you to try very hard to find a way to go there. After your first trip, they can follow up with you without your having to travel back there every couple of months. It's just a thought, for whatever it's worth. Please feel free to e-mail me personally. I'd love to talk with you some more. Love, Rachelle - merryheartsong@aol.com
