Re: New Ideas Drawn from My Own Research - Please Read ThisFrom: Avalos (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 7 Aug 2000 09:32:37 -0500
Wendy: Hi, I found your message to be very, very interesting! I have sleep apnea... I have never been treated for this, assuming that there is not a lot that could be done (been told that by doctors in the past... ) now I am going to look into that more carefully and will schedule an appointment with my doctor to discuss this.... Please explain more, if possible, about the CPAP machine and how it works, I am very, very curious... Thanks, Clara -----Original Message----- From: anonymous@obgyn.net [mailto:anonymous@obgyn.net Sent: Monday, August 07, 2000 9:46 AM To: Multiple recipients of list PCOS Subject: New Ideas Drawn from My Own Research - Please Read This Hello, Ladies!! I wanted to tell you about some information that I have found that has me changing my view slightly about the origin of PCOS. In the beginning, I viewed my symptoms as separate - until I spoke to an endocrinologist on the phone (for about an hour) who enlightened me about PCOS. I had myself checked and, sure enough, I had it. Then I checked into Insulin Resistance - seemed logical to me. Guess what, I had it. Driven by the appearance of symptoms in my younger daughter, I had persued locating the root cause of the insulin resistance. The more I asked about how insulin is resisted (or effectively used) I found that the process is soooo complex that many medical professionals do not even clearly understand it. I finally found a diagram that shows the process of insulin and glucose "latching" and found that in order for a cell to latch on to glucose, it had to first latch onto insulin. If it does not - then the glucose that has been generated waits around in our bodies - stored as fat. The body tries to counter this by increasing the insulin - creating another imbalance - which is then self adjusted by overproducing testoserone (which is where we get the hair from). It was also very interesting to me that, in order for the metabolism process to take effect and create the needed chemical transformation, oxygen needed to be present in the same cell (kinda like the fuel needed to burn a fire). I wondered if that was the reason the cell could not take on the insulin - creating a chain reaction or domino effect. Since my mother had recently been diagnosed with sleep apnea, I decided to look into this theory a bit closer. I had myself tested and - you guessed it - I have sleep apnea. Could it be that, due to sleep apena, I became insulin resistant, causing Polycystic ovarian syndrome?? I think that this observation requires additional research. If you think about it, a person whose arm or leg is put into a turnequate for an extended period of time may eventually lose that extremity - not because of loss of blood, but from the loss of oxygen that the blood carries to the tissues. If we are starving our bodies of oxygen, it will go into defense mode and preserve what oxygen it does absorb by preventing new muscle tissue growth. This theory may also explain the "Brain Fog" that we encounter from time to time and the increase in PH levels that bleach our undergarments as the toxidity levels rise in our bodies - which are unable to purge them. I also feel that our bodies are trying to expell the impurities in our system and that may be what causes the acne and pimply things that form on our upper inner thigh. It may also explain the sluffing off of our scalp hair - as oxygen is needed to promote good hair growth - and scalp hair may be viewed by our bodies as an extravigance that can not be afforded. Well - that was long winded enough - tell me what you think about my theory. Do any of you experience Sleep Apnea Symptoms? Waking during the night - snoring - may have a headache upon waking in the morning. You may have it and not even be aware that you do. I am getting a CPAP machine to try out on a trial basis. CPAP is a mask that you wear while you sleep that provides Continuous Positive Air Presure. I'll let you know what the results yield. (On a side note, my mother has lost 69 lbs in 8 mos on CPAP)
