Re: Does Metformin help in weight loss???

Hi, Michelle, this is Rachelle! I've seen a lot of posts lately from women who have been losing on Metformin. I've also seen a lot of other good things about it. I really cringe when I hear of women going on Depo. Not only do I know women who do NOT have PCOS and were previously normal who got really messed up on that (quit having their periods for several months after it was supposed to have worn off, or the other extreme of bleeding and not being able to get it to stop), but I've read some bad ones lately right here on this board. The other thing that always concerns me is that Depo is a lasting drug. You get this huge dose of something in your system that is supposed to work for months. What if it happens that a person is allergic to it? It's not like they can stop taking it. I cannot take BCPs. My (otherwise normal) heart freaks out and I end up in the hospital. Also, some women have terrible problems with one birth control pill over another. Hormone manipulation is a touchy thing. I'm not a doctor or in any other way qualified to give medical advice, but if it were me, at the very least, I would find out if there was some way I could have a sensitivity test to find out if I could be allergic to anything in the Depo before putting months' worth of it into my body. Just my opinion.
