Hi Tash

I had this same problem initially. I just love breakfast cereals, and the thought of bacon and eggs more than about once a month just makes me sick.

After 1 week of eating no carbs, I felt sick and hated eating breakfast, and figured that's not a healthy way to approach a lifetime change in eating patterns.

Instead, I found 2 kinds of cereal that have less than 20g of carbohydrate in them per serve. Granted, they're small serves, but at least I get breakfast. In the US, that's Quaker Crunchy corn bran and Weetabix.

In Australia, I think Vita Brits, All-Bran, and maybe NutriGrain - can't think of many more. What you're looking for is a minimally-processed, whole grain cereal where the nutritional label must have very low sugars and there should be a high fibre content. (so - not cornflakes, rice bubbles etc) Apparently, you can deduct the fibre from your carbohydrate count as they don't get absorbed. So for example, the corn bran has 23g of carbohydrates, including 5g of insoluble fiber and 6g sugars. So that's 18g of carbohydrate towards your daily count, and that's about as low as it gets without eating all-bran.

I was worried that introducing the cereal would make me stop losing weight, but I am very careful to limit all other carbohydrates to apples and vegetables, and by adding 45 mins a day of exercise, just lost 5lbs this week.

I think you could have toast occasionaly - just check the glycemic index on a web site. Yesterday I sww that Burgen Soy-Linseed bread has a very low glycemic index, because it's whole grains and all that. I don't think we have it in the US, but you do in Australia. Have a slice with some vegemite for me.....yummmm!!!
