Hi, PCOS is diagnosed via a vaginal ultrasound. That's an insertable ultrasound wand that they can get pretty close to the ovaries to take a ppicture of them. When calling to make an appt., ask the gyn office if they have this machine in their office. If they don't they'll have to refer you to a radiology center, 2 appointments instead of one and it'll cost more that way, so you're better off if they can do the test in the office. It's also faster if the dr. is right there to look at the picture on the computer screen of the machine. Some dr.s still try to just feel the ovaries and see if they feel any lumps, or if you have any pain there, but the ultrasound can detect smaller cysts, can tell if you have more than one on the same ovary, and can tell a cyst from something else, so get a dr. who uses the machine. Also, if the dr. or his staff seems reluctant to schedule you for this test before a general appointment, find out if this is because of your mco; if not, it means they don't take you seriously and you should look for a different one, because a dr. who doesn't listen to you will miss half your symptoms. I hope this is useful advice. Erin.
