My daughter has PCOS and in some research I was doing for her I found an article that said not to use the triphase birth control pills like Ortho Tricyclen - it can actually increase the number of cysts. Her doctor had her on it and she got much worse within a few months with severe pain in her left ovary which is covered with cysts.
