Re: Ovarian drilling/Ovarian wedge resection

I had ovarian wedge resections on both ovaries, in January 1976. My period never normalized. I got pregnant once -- because the doctor who did the surgery also gave me an IUD (I had just turned 21, and did not wish to become pregnant) AND he put me on high doses of clomid and parlodel at the same time. I conceived with an IUD in place, went through physical and emotional torment, and wound up having an abortion. My PCOS definitely was not cured, although who can say whether the surgery made it "less bad" than it would have been otherwise? On the other hand, I developed bad gut problems that were constantly called IBS, for which I've had to have 2 full investigations (which are not fun). In the past 2 years, constipation has become a constant "condition" in my life that I have to treat on a nearly daily basis (with psyllium and water ad nauseum), and recently realized that it was very likely due, at least in part, to adhesions that formed as a result of the bilateral resection. The drilling or cauterization procedures may be less invasive and produce less scarring,a nd have otherwise better results. I'm not sure. All I can say is that you should inform yourself very well of the rates of risks and benefits with whatever you undergo.

Good luck -- Alina

I wondered if it was PCOS related and now I am convinced it is because my hormones are so out of whack. I dont have as much trouble with it now because I switched to a mens deodorant. It is called Old Spice Red Zone and it really does eliminate this problem for me. Hang in there!
>> I had both proceedures done back in 1970. I was fortunate to find a doctor who knew what my problem was and how to cure me. When I say cure I mean just that. Up until the time of my surgery I was very irregular, periods twice a year if I was lucky, excessive hair growth, weight problem and difficulty with getting pregnant. When the doctor said it would all be taken care of by surgery,I really didn't believe him as I had been told all the other things I had tried was going to work. The results were amazing to me. Not only was I regular as clockwork but I had 2 chrildren after. I was regular every month up until I went into menopause about seven years ago. One other thing I'll never forget was how good I felt after I had healed from the surgery. I didn't realize how bad my body felt before the surgery was done.
