Re: How do you decide what dose of Met to go up to?From: Belle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 19 Jul 2000 10:14:38 -0500 (CDT)
If she goes up to 2000, it would be 4 - 500 mg tablets with 2 taken at the largest meal. There is no set dosage for taking met for women with PCOS here in the states. We base it on two things 1) it seems that most women were able to get theraputic results on 1500 mg and 2) the results of the blood tests involving insulin and glucose. If she is getting her period and she is seeing results, 1700 mg may be the right dosage for her. If not then she may need to go up some. If her insulin levels are not in the normal range, she may need to increase the dosage. 1 1/2 kilos are not bad. A kilo a week would be the most that anyone should lose. If she wants to increase her weight loss, she may want to increase her water intake. She should have several glasses a day. Many people have stated that they notice that the more water they drank, the more weight they lost. That was true in my case. The exercise is important also. I go to the gym but that was not really helping a lot. I noticed that if I increased my exercise in very small amounts, it made a great difference. I started parking at the end of the parking lot, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, wearing leg weights while doing housework, etc., and it made a big difference.
