You should not need to do blood sugar tests. I discussed with my endo the last time I was in because of some run ins I had with some other drs who knew that I was on Glucophage. If you think about it, this makes sence. We have an insulin problem. Technically we are glucose impaired. If we allow our insulin to get so bad that it affects our sugar, we are going in the wrong direction.

This dietician is not aware (or doesn't care about) the health needs of the person with IR. I say doesn't care because we all tend to believe the first thing that we hear about a given subject and this person has been through school where they have taught and tested her on the basic food groups and how they react in the "normal" body. We do not fit this image. Our bodies break the rules. I would be willing to bet that if given enough time she would have pulled the kidney damage line out of her hat. ;-)

You could call the dr and tell them that you are not comfortable with this dietician because it is obvious that she knows nothing about PCOS or insulin resistance. Since your endo did not recommend that you monitor your blood sugar and this appears to be the foundation of her practice, could they recommend someone who can help you develop a good diet for you. They may have a few dieticians on their list that they just pick and choose from.

P.S. I remember when I was first diagnosed, I was sent to one of these dieticians who put me on a high carb, low protien diet and charged me money. I knew that it was not an option for me. My endo (who does research in PCOS) just stated to me outright that I should not go to one of the dieticians because they tend to have a one size fits all approach to diet and it does not work. I thought this was funny because she specializes in diabetes and has a dietician on staff in her office! She does recommend the diabetics use a dietician.
