confused re:diabetic dietFrom: Susan (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 10 Jul 2000 13:03:45 -0500 (CDT)
Went to my RE today after lab testing last week. She said I was borderline diabetic, my insulin levels were elevated, high cholesterol was bad...yada yada yada, ya'll know the drill by now. She has given me a prescription to start glucophage (yea) and has asked me to see a dietician re: a diabetic diet. Here is where I start to get leery, the dietician called to schedule and asked me how often I test my sugar by finger prick.. I said never, and she informed me she'll have to teach me to start doing that, also when I told her I had been low carbing she said, oh no you can only do that for so long, I'm going to put you on a "healthier" diabetic diet that is good for life. I said I have PCOS I'm not diabetic. She said it didn't matter even though she didn't seem at all familiar with PCOS. Now girls, I have learned through listening to you wonderful fellow PCOS'ers on this board NOT to be led blindly like a lamb to the slaughter. I'm seeing red flags here, but I'm not exactly sure what to say or do. Perhaps this is o.k. but I'm just not sure, and it just doesn't sound right. I always see great advice on the board here, so of course I'm turning to you!
