Re: Age and weight and pregnancy

I was diagnosed with PCOS in late May 2000 (also during preliminary infertility testing). I am 28 and have a beautiful baby girl who will be 2 in October. Looking back, I have had symptoms probably since puberty (painful periods, excess hair, overweight, etc.) I had a wonderful pregnancy and I weighed the same on the day I gave birth as I did when I got pregnant (overall I lost approx. 19 lbs. after delivery). I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes midway through my pregnancy, but I only had to restrict sugar (no insulin). I, too, believe pregnancy stabilized my hormones. The only problem was that after I gave birth to my daughter things were really out of whack. I've always had skin tags, but they have almost tripled in number, I have an increase in facial and body hair, I gained about 35 pounds in the last year and a half (diet and exercise did not change) and I am now having infertility problems (lack of ovulation). I am now on Glucophage (1500mg/day) and am seeing some improvement in my overall health.

>I had been diagnosed with PCOS in January 2000 during early infertility investigations. I am 37 years old. With hindsight I was a classic case(excess hair/weight problem/long menstrual cycle) and the pelvic scan confirmed it.
> I actually concieved that month and am now 6 months pregnant. I weighed 160lbs in January and I still to today ! Before you ask - I have been eating normally and my baby is normal size for 29 weeks.

>I have a theory that the the pregnancy has normalised my hormones (normal for a pregnant woman anyway) and this has resulted in the underlying weight loss. I am attempting to get medical confirmation of this. The trick will be to keep this going after my baby is born in September.
