Re: What do you want people / MD's to know about PCOS?From: Michelle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 5 Jul 2000 19:30:39 -0500 (CDT)
Hey Sonnet: I agree with Jennifer--what a great idea, and so typical for you! :-) There's a really good basic article by Dr. Samuel Thatcher published here on obgyn.net. It might be a good place to start. Here is the link: http://www.obgyn.net/pcos/articles/whatispcos.htm I have sent emails with a link to this article to my family members, and I think the disease makes more sense to them now because of it. It also discusses the weight gain issues in a manner that takes the blame away from the patient. It is nice to see this in a paper written by a doctor. This way we aren't stuck trying to explain our weight gain and coming off sounding like we're just making excuses instead. (Keep in mind that the article was written before Rezulin was pulled off the market by the FDA. It mentions it as a treatment, but obviously is no longer available.) Also, I would love it if it was clear to visitors that this is a syndrome, and some symptoms on the list can be absent and you could still have PCOS. I think that I delayed seeking treatment because I am not hirsute. I hope that other women can get treatment as soon as possible--the earlier the diagnosis the better. Hope this gives you some good ideas. Take care, Michelle K.
