glucophage and stomach problems

Hello. I was just put on Glucophage. I am starting out with 500mg a day, and am supposed to work my way up to 2000mg. I took the pill on Saturday and my stomach was fine, and I took it yesterday (both with meals) and had very bad stomach cramps and diarrhea beginning about an hour after I took the pill. I know that some stomach problems are to be expected with this drug, for about the first 2 weeks of taking it, and I was wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences...i.e.-how long did the stomach problems last for, how bad was it, how many times a day, etc. I'd appreciate any info from anyone. Thanks!!
