Re: Could the Doctors on the board plaesa take a look at this...From: Belle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 30 Jun 2000 23:17:27 -0500 (CDT)
I am going to take a shot at all of this. First off, some of your symptoms seem to be caused by something other than PCOS. Many of us have had a loss of energy due to the insulin problems. This could not cause you to fall asleep at the wheel. Many women gain weight while on the pill. this is a side effect that you can get whether you have PCOS or not. The pill has been known to reduce your drive for sex. The pill can also cause some water retention. Something else that can cause you to retain water is not drinking enough water. Since you have not been attacking the cause of the PCOS, it may be a natural progression for you to have thinning, finer hair. I have never heard of eyelashes falling out due to this pill. This may be a form of Alopecia. It may be a good idea for you to stop your medications so you can find out what your body is doing and what the drugs are doing. It seems that the cause of PCOS is genetics. An insulin problem is making the other hormones react in a way that they would not normally. Oily hair and skin can be common in PCOS. Acne is a common complaint. 1) You can read about the medications (diabetes and otherwise) at the PCOSupport web site. http://www.pcosupport.org 2) Without seeing your lab values, knowing your blood pressure, doing a kidney function test, knowing how much alcohol you drink or how much water you drink, I could not even specuate about your water retention. I could not say what kind of dr you should see. 3) & 4) Already discussed hair. 5) Do a search on this forum, I believe that there have been people who have found good drs in NJ. You could also find drs listed under health care professionals on the site linked above. 6) A good dr will order blood tests to rule out thyroid problems, Cushing's, etc. There are symptoms of each individual disorder to lead the dr in one directoin or another. If you have enough symptoms of PCOS, they may do fewer tests, if you have enough symptoms to indicate something else, you may have more tests. 7) There is no "Cure" for PCOS. Please read the information at the site I have linked above. It is full of answers.
-- Hope this helps,
