Hey all!

I know adoption isn't on tap for many of you, but my husband and I have wanted to adopt since we first started dating, before we even knew I had PCOS. We just received some information from the Adoption Network of Catholic Charities in the San Francisco diocese. I assume there is something similar in every diocese across the US. (I know there isn't in Australia, because of govt adoption laws. UK and Canada, you're on your own to figure it out ;) )

ANYWAY, the deal is, they do a full home study on you, which takes from 2 - 6 months. Then you are placed with a foster child. They pay a monthly stipend as well as all the medical and counseling bills for the child. After 6 months or so, if they determine that there is a bond between you and the child, and you are still interested, the child is legally adopted to you.

The best part about it is the fee. If you adopt a 'relinquished' baby (ie, right out of the hospital from day one) the fee is only 10% of your income. If you adopt a fostered child (like the regular procedure goes) there IS NO FEE. At least, that is what I get from reading this material!

The adoption Network of Catholic Charities will serve anyone, from any religion, married or single, regardless of race, creed or ethnicity. You do not have to be catholic. You don't even have to be married. You don't have to own a home or a car or even have a fabulous job.

They can be reached in SF at (415) 844-4781. Elsewhere, I assume you can contact them through your local Catholic church.

If you are interested in adopting internationally, may I suggest Holt children's services of Eugene, OR. My sister and two of my friends were adopted from Korea through Holt and it is an AMAZING agency. There is also very little wait and the fees are reasonable. I believe they can be found at http://www.holtintl.com

ANYWAY Sorry so long! Just wanted to share this info if that is an option for your family!! Take care everyone and wish us luck finding a big enough apartment... hee hee all going well through this, we could be parents by Christmas! Whoo!!

a very excited Sonnet :)
