Petition against Good Morning America re: negative infertility commentsFrom: Kristen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 29 Jun 2000 15:30:56 -0500 (CDT)
For those of you who may not have heard, last week on Good Morning America Dr. Nancy Snyderman did a story on "black market" fertility drugs. After the story aired, she had a live interview with Diane Sawyer. (Note that Dr. Snyderman is an ear, nose and throat specialist)During this interview she basically called women suffering from infertility who buy drugs illicitly "desperate" and said that "maybe some women just aren't meant to be fertile" and since treatment isn't medically necessary, insurance shouldn't cover it. To see a transcript of the interchange follow this link: http://www.inciid.org/forums/waitingroom/messages/48048.html This is ignorant and wrong!! Insurance covers Viagra (is it medically necessary for a man to get an erection??) , vasectomies, acne treatment (maybe acne sufferers were meant to have bad skin!)etc. Please follow the following link to a petition that has been formed online against GMA. Every signature counts...please include yours. http://www.petitiononline.com/NoGMA/petition.html We should all be outraged at this treatment and insenstivity. PLEASE call GMA and let them know what you think. The number is 212-456-5900 hit 0 as soon as it picks up. Also, please write GMA and let them know what you think and that we are a large part of thier viewing audience and WE MATTER! They can be contacted via the following link http://abcnews.go.com/onair/GoodMorningAmerica/GMA_email_form.html Also, please encourage them to do a story about the faith bill that is in the Senate. We need publicity for this bill to get it passed! We will be more powerful if we stick together. Let ABC know how this makes you feel. Also, please be sure to sign the petition and write your Senators and Congressmen/women. Just think of how glad you will be that you did it when we all are covered for insurance! Thanks so much for your time!
