14-year-old daughter with ovarian cystFrom: Gisele (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 24 Jun 2000 04:43:32 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, everyone: We just found out that my 14-year-old daughter is deficient in estrogen-binding globulin levels and has an ovarian cyst -- this explains her irregular and heavy periods, cramping and pelvic pain, and unwanted body and facial hair. For a while her pediatrician in PA had not taken her symptoms seriously, so we went to an endocrinologist at Baylor Medical School in Houston, TX, who will write up a report with her recommendations next week. I've been doing some reading about this condition and came upon this forum. If anyone has had experience with this problem in a child Ashley's age, I would really like to hear if you've found a good solution. From what I've read, the birth control pill Demulen 1/50 used for at least 1 year is a good treatment, as well as anti-androgenic agents like Spironolactone to reduce unwanted hair, plus lowering insulin levels with Glucophage, ACTOS, or Avandia. Has anyone had any success with any of these therapies? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Gisele
