Re: Clomid before IVFFrom: Jenee (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 17 Jun 2000 23:10:16 -0500 (CDT)
Jaspeth, I cannot give you medical advice, but I will tell you, I was diagnosed with PCOS at 19 yrs and have had 8 preg in 16 yrs., several with clomid. I have an RE who would advise IVF for me also. Then, I surprised him and came up preg without IVF or clomid. I think RE's tend to want to get in there and get you pregnant right away. And they KNOW they can control the entire IVF cycle. It's out of the goodness of their hearts, and would actually expose you to fewer rounds of fertility drugs in the long run. Although you would endure high tech intervention. I wouldn't hesitate to take the two rounds of clomid if that's what's available to you, and especially if you are on met. (20% pco ovulate with clomid and no met, 80% with clomid and met.) just make sure you are under a doctor's care at the time and make sure he examines your ovaries on day 5 before you start clomid. And look into the new drugs to boost your husband's sperm count or find a less aggressive doc and induce ovulation and do IUI. I would question going on BC at all EVER if you have PCO and are wanting a pregnancy. That is only going to jeopardize your fertility and complicate your pco infertility. Good luck! JJ
