Re: BELLE!! Very nervous...please share your thoughtsFrom: Belle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 15 Jun 2000 21:14:14 -0500 (CDT)
I am going to try this again. The first reply I wrote was very long but it did not go through! :-( Your dr should check your BP each time you visit. Particularily if you are on an antihypertensive medication. I am concerned about this. First thing I would recommend for you is to increase your fluid intake (water). This will do a couple of things. 1)it will increase your BP because of the increased fluid volume. 2) It will help prevent your potassium concentration from becoming too great. If you think that your potassium is too high, you could limit your intake of greens, soy flour, bread (because of additives), you should check the fruits and veggies that you eat. There is usually a nutritional chart at the grocery store over the fruit and veggie section. Most people do not take in the recommended amount of potassium each day (2000 mg), in UK the recommended amount is about 3500 mg and in Australia it is between 1800 and 5500 mg per day. You would have to take a lot of potassium in order to have too much. You will probably want to check your BP between times. I do not know how much a BP tester is at Service Merchandise or other stores, but I do know that I have my own sphygmomanometer at home and so does a aunt (who has high blood pressure). It is possible that you have a neighbor or co-worker who also has one and would be willing to help you monitor your BP for a few days. You should check your BP at the same time of the day for a couple of days. I would not be worried unless your BP is low (lower than 100/70) for three different checks. This is no where near as in-depth as the post before it was but I hope it is still helpful.
