Need Advice on getting pregnant etc.From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 15 Jun 2000 15:12:55 -0500 (CDT)
I am 29 years old and have basically had PCOS since I was about 14-150 years old. Since then, I have been on all kinds of medication such as Provera, Orthotricyclene, Orthonovvum, Aldactone (Spironolactone), and even Clomid (to see if it helps me ovulate). In March-April 1998, I stopped taking birth control pills (which makes it over two years now) as my gynecologist at the time said that I should try to get pregnant soon as the longer I waited, the harder it would get to conceive. However, during that time while I was off the birth control, I did not really try to get pregnant and also did not get a period for almost one year until about May/June of 1999 when another gynecologist suggested I try Clomid just to see whether it would help me ovulate. Well, it did help me ovulate and got my periods regularly since June 1999 for about 9 months. The last period I got was in February/March of 2000. However, I have stopped menstruating again and am also not on any medication. My weight has also increased significantly I would like to have a baby soon and want to know what my options are. I have not tried to get pregnant naturally as yet (its almost as if i am afraid to - at the cost of being terribly disappointed!) Also, I have gained at least 20-30 pounds in the last 10 years. I also have excessive hair growth on my face and thighs/bikini line. It is extremely hard for me to lose weight even with regular exercise and dieting. Should I try Metformin? Additionally, I have been experiencing a gradual lack of sexual desire over the years and my body does not get lubricated enough during sexual activities. Is this a possible symptom of PCOS? I would really appreciate any help/advice/suggestions re. all this.
