Ginger, don't despair. Sometimes parents don't fulfill our expectations of them. I can relate to family rudeness and insensitivity concerning our PCOS disease. Don't beat yourself up mentally and emotionally because your Dad doesn't understand what is really going on. My life experience has shown that men can be really insensitive about every 5 minutes, so don't expect your Dad to suddenly have an ephipany about you and the PCOS. Just keep giving him articles about the disease and show him this website and make him read a little about it every week; he will slowly begin to understand. Remember, slow and steady wins the race of understanding. Keep at him, and don't give up no matter what insensitive dribble is being aimed at you. (Be patient and kind to him too, don't be angry). Changing someones inherent attitude about something takes time, especially when there is several generations between them. It sounds like your dad has some internal self esteem problem of his own that he is still trying to overcome. Don't let unkind words get in the way of your life's happiness. All of us that post on this board have had some similar experiences with rudeness aimed at our weight in our lives, the secret is to have a coping mechanism. I learned from my mom to develop what she called a "tough skin" and don't take crap from anyone, family or not. Sorry this is so long. Keep the faith, Adipose

Yes, Gail, I can relate to what you said since I have experienced the same things. I know the percentage of ladies on this board are concerned with fertility questions, but we ladies that are post-menopausal and still suffer from PCOS are important too. Hang in there, you are not alone!!! Maybe in the near future, we can all work together to find answers and spread the word to our daughters and grandaughters. Keep looking for the light.
