Re: PCOSFrom: Belle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 13 Jun 2000 12:37:16 -0500 (CDT)
Was the insulin level drawn 3 or 4 times over a period of time, after you drank a sugary drink or had a high carb meal? If it was just a fasting level then it is useless. We need the IGTT (Glucose tolerance test with insulin levels) in order to see how or insulin reacts to glucose. This test is given in 2, 3 and 5 hour formats. You can have polycystic ovaries and still not have PCOS. You can have PCOS and not polycystic ovaries. The name of this condition was set before this detail was determined. You can be diagnosed based on history, hormone levels or ultrasound. An ultrasound alone will not confirm a diagnosis of PCOS so having 2 out of the 3 is better. Have you had your LH/FSH levels checked. This might indicate some problem.
