Yes, if you do not want to conceive, you'd need to continue bcp or some other contraception. But, no, if you are only using the bcp as a PCO "treatment". Bcp's work to superficially regulate your hormones because your body can't even try to do so on it's own. Metformin works on insulin resistance, not your reproductive hormones - BUT, if IR is your problem, fixing the IR with Met often has a domino effect of making your whole body get back to normal like this: an out-of-control insulin resistance situation interrupts the communication between your brain and your reproductive hormones. When it cannot (after you've gotten IR under control), your brain ceases giving wrong signals to your reproductive system and you stop having PCO suffering - no further cyst formation, returned ovulation, etc. This how it worked for me. I got off the bcp, got on Met and got pregnant when I chose several months later.
