Re: 17 and wondering...From: Crystal (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 10 Jun 2000 23:51:18 -0500 (CDT)
Hey everyone, *waves* I'm new around this court and just now started looking up PCOS after a brief discussion with an old friend of my moms. She was talking about how she got diagnosed with PCOS and all the symptoms that came along with it. She kept naming them off one by one and I could definitely tell this is what I have. I haven't gotten diagnosed with it yet (will set up an appointment ASAP though after coming to this site) and I can just tell I have it. The facial hair, the irregular periods (I haven't had mine for almost a year!), acne (yeah, I'm a teenager, but I'm getting it in odd places...), weight gain and everything else. Blah. It's really embarassing for me, who just turned 16 to be...well, a teenager with this. I know I've had to have had it for quite sometime now (since 13, at least - my periods were never regular and I just assumed that's how I was, but then the facial hair came tumbeling along and my mom said my hormones must be high...Of course, I never really thought anything of it) The acne issue...LOL...believe it or not, I just thought I was allergic to my own sweat or something (I get it mostly on my back and under my breasts). I don't know...It's created a low self-esteem thing for me and I'm really self-conscience (spelling!?!) about these 'symptoms'...So, erg.. enough of the pity party...I'll go to my doctor. I've *never* been to a gynocologist before so, I don't really know what it's like. I don't know if she'll tell me the whole deal on what to do or what. Like, cut down on carbs and drink lots of water so could you guys help me out and explain some detailed information of the diets (and etc..) that you go through? It'd help a lot...Thanks. PS-Sorry if you've had a post like this before, I'm too lazy to read through the whole years discussion board. :P
