For many women metformin takes many months to see results. It took me almost six months to show any improvements. In the beginning my labwork actually worsened. And it is really key for those of us who struggle with weight loss even though we are on metformin, to really stick with low carb dieting. I did not see any weight loss on met until I very seriously restricted carbs and fat. Your doctor is not correct in saying all women at the max dosage lose weight on metformin. Check the studies on the web yourself and you'll see. Met is not a cure-all. Only Some women lose weight on it. It is becoming very common for docs to add avandia and actos to pcos women taking met as well. As someone who has struggled all my life with pcos, my advice is to be persistent with your doctor and your diet and really restrict those carbs. Best of luck!
