Dear Beckie, I am 28 years old, I have been on so many diets that I could not stay on. I have two books to recommend, The Carbohydrate Addicts diet, and Healthy For Life--both by Drs Rachel and Richard Heller. These books and the subsequent success have given me new hope. I have been able to stay on them and lose weight. Yes, I have fallen off of the CAD diet a few times and don't always do it 100% but I know with time if I keep trying I will succeed. I have lost weight, have more energy, feel more in control of myself than ever. This did not happen over night. It has taken falling and getting back up. Don't be discouraged, and don't beat yourself up. If I can do this anyone can. Don't expect it to be easy, just easier. I think I read some scriptures on some postings so I hope it is okay to share this. I prayed desperately for God to help me with my health. I felt soooo sick. I had been trying to do this all on my own for soo long. I felt somewhat hopeless. Within 2 days of crying out to the Lord for his help, I found this website, info on PCOS and the Heller books. I cried and cried when I read the postings. I felt such relief and hope. I have since then been slowly but surely getting healthier and feeling better. My weak areas tend to be weekends. During the week I have an established routine. I take a low carb lunch to work (usually consisting of no carb ham and no carb chedder cheese)I eat this and get back to work. then in the evening I have my reward meal (CAD) and eat as much of anything I want for one hour. Believe it or not I'm losing weight. This diet works for me because I don't feel deprived. If I want that chocolate bar I can eat it during the reward meal. If I crave something, I know that in less than a day I can have it if I want. Because of this, I feel IN CONTROL. AND, after being on it a while, I have less cravings than before. My energy level has been so much higher since on this diet. The diet is hard to get started but once on it, it is fairly easy to maintain, in my opinion. HOWEVER, it is harder on weekends, particularly Sunday. After church, I have a greater temptation to eat "Sunday Dinner" with the whole group of friends and family. Eating to me is associated with fellowship and good times. So I struggle still with this. Once I have eaten my reward meal for lunch then, I have a hard time to not eat carbs in evening, I don't know why. Just works this way for me. If you have any tips for me on this please pass them my way. Sorry this has been so long. Hope this helps Leigh
