Re: ???????????From: Avalos (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 7 Jun 2000 15:52:09 -0500
This depends on what your concept of "cured" is... we have a condition that we always have to watch out for... (much like diabetics always have to watch out for their condition) If we low carb and do our best to get to a healthy body weight (this is a really individual thing, mind you), then I would think that we would each have to adopt a lifestyle that promotes maintaining that healthy status. It is true that things like cysts and irregular periods, and even hair growth and scalp hair loss can be affected by gaining and losing weight; I know that during the years when I was really in great shape, even though I had PCOS, my periods were every 34 days more or less, but I had less hair growth and more hair on my head... I am under the impression that, if I lose weight, however slowly, that eventually my other symptoms will diminish, and I just take Metformin and other meds to further that effect.... As of this writing there is no cure that will make PCOS go away. There is just treatment for what we think are the causes and lifestyle changes to help us stay healthier. Is it a battle? depends again on your point of view. I am not sure, for myself. I struggle, but I can't say it's a war. It's just one of those random acts of life that I have to cope with, so be it. So I have to be somewhat more disciplined than I would like to be... OK, if that's all, then that's not so bad. I'd rather have to treat my condition that way than with heavy medication, like chemotherapy, and not know what the chances are.... (not to be depressing, but when I think about people with other illnesses, I count myself lucky that this is the only thing I have to worry about for now). I'm not usually open about my faith, but I feel the need to say what others here have said: God does not give us any more than what we can handle..... I think of that often and it helps me handle this. -----Original Message----- From: anonymous@obgyn.net [mailto:anonymous@obgyn.net Sent: Wednesday, June 07, 2000 4:08 PM To: Multiple recipients of list PCOS Subject: ??????????? With successful weight lose(did I spell that right?), can PCOS be beat???? Does your body straighten itself out??? I know this is all insulin related but if that gets worked out does everything else get better??? Or is this just a battle we can win but not the war???? I keep reading about fighting this but no real answer to whether or not that it will be "cured".
