Hi Girls-

OK, here's my most current problem. I was talking to my dad tonight and he asked how I've been feeling. (I had been having major blood sugar crashes a few months back before I had a GTT and found out I'm hypoglycemic). Anyway, he's known for 5 years (as long as I have) that I have PCOS, but he just says "I'm glad I'm not a woman so I don't have to deal with all those "female" problems." I love my dad dearly, but sometimes he's as sensitive as a brick. I was explaining the whole insulin resistance stuff and how I've probably always had these problems since I was an obese child and he says, "Well, what about that time I sent you to Weight Watchers (I was 12) and you were able to loose weight?", and continues "Since you're out of school for the summer maybe you should load the kids up in the stroller and walk every day", and then, "You always have loved sweets. I'm sure all those cookies had something to do with this."

AAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Even though I am 25, married, 2 kids, successful in school, life, etc., etc., for some reason I still want my father's approval and understanding. So, I'm wondering... have any of you ever come across an article entitled something to the effect of "Explaining PCOS to the Bull-Headed"? I know that my dad loves me and even said "I've never seen you as being overweight, you're my daughter and that has never been an issue.", but he is unbelievably fit, has always worked out, and is 51, but looks about 40. He is very popular with "the ladies" and I've heard his critiques of women before, so I know that appearance is a major issue with him. He's one of those people that assumes that if someone's overweight it's a direct result of lack of exercise and no self control. I know that I may never get him to understand that this is not my fault and my weight is a symptom of an underlying problem, but I sure would like to try. Any advice or suggestions are very much appreciated!!!!

As always, thanks...you're all the best!!! Ginger
