Re: Patti Re: Is anyone okay with their weight and NOT dieting??From: adipose (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 5 Jun 2000 13:43:47 -0500 (CDT)
> To me it is worse when you hear it from family members. My father-in-law is so rude about my weight I can't stand visiting them anymore. They live several states away, thank goodness!!! Once when my husband and I were visiting, we went out for breakfast at a restaurant. I ordered a regular breakfast of eggs, bacon and toast. Nothing fancy, mind you. His response to me when the food came to the table and we all started eating was "you know you will never lose weight if you eat like that". Of course, he said it quietly so my husband would not hear him say it to me, but his rude attitude just upset me so much I wanted to get up and walk out right there, but all the family was there as a get together and I didn't want to cause a "scene". My father-in-law and stepmother-in-law are always making rude suggestions about me dieting and losing weight. They have never taken time to know me personally or anything about PCOS or that I was and am extremely active and have been dieting for 20 years. I would never comment on their shortcomings, and they have a lot of them. People do seem to think it is ok to be rude to overweight people. It is the last acceptable form of discrimination in this country and it is blatently practiced. I now fire right back at the idiot offenders, family members or not. I will no longer be a woman who needs to be rescued. I will be my own hero.
-- Yes, Gail, I can relate to what you said since I have experienced the same things. I know the percentage of ladies on this board are concerned with fertility questions, but we ladies that are post-menopausal and still suffer from PCOS are important too. Hang in there, you are not alone!!! Maybe in the near future, we can all work together to find answers and spread the word to our daughters and grandaughters. Keep looking for the light.
