Re: DARN CARBS..-- ketosis issue

True true. But in my case, consdiering I gained weight I'm going to assume there was not necessarily a lot of ketosis going on with me, water or not. I'm glad you are not as gung-ho re: fats as atkins. Truth is the only diff. between Protein Power diet and Atkins is that gung-ho fat issue. So if you are taking it easy on fats, you are prob doing something similar to Protein Power actually...

I'm not trying to proselytize (or criticize!) anyone. I just don't want anyone to go thru what I went thru--keeping the faith that atkins WOULD EVENTUALLY WORK when it just plain didn't for me (or my mom, or a co-worker I know).

In my opinion, (and this is jsut to everyone) if you just can't get into ketosis for much longer than it "should" take, seriously reconsider if a ketosis-measuring diet is for you.

But honest I'm really REALLY glad your diet is working. 17 pounds--that is AWESOME!! Congrats! :D

>Although I agree with your comments...I am not following Atkins. Atkins does suggest minimal carbs & increased fats. However, it is posible for a person to follow Atkins and not really go overboard on the fats. I am not as strict as he and I have lost 17 lbs since the end of March. I watch my carb count, eat only low-carb veggies & no fruit, but I also eat lean meats & aboslutely refuse to eat pork rinds!! Testing ketones is just something I do
>to ensure that my body is buring its stored fats. However, it is possible that one can be in ketosis and that when testing the urine, the strips show only "traces." This may be due to the amount of water a person is drinking. It may also be noted that some people are so insulin resistant that they are unable to enter ketosis. I have found my resistance to be very severe...thus the reason for adding the supplements mentioned..

I tried upping the L-carn to 1500 a day, but that didn't work either. Hopefully, the RE will be able to help out & answer some ?'s for me on the 30th. Thanks again for your help! Also, are you taking Inositol as well?

I too had a standstill for about 2 weeks. But I have read somewhere that it is not counted as a plateau unless you have stalled for a month. So try not to worry. Some days our bodies retain more water than others.

(Ive been working out in the gym twice a week for two weeks now as well - so that may also be a contributory factor) But that means I can add more carbs if I want and still know I will maintain weight loss.
