Re: Just got back from an appointment with my RE.....From: Avalos (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 31 May 2000 14:13:47 -0500
Hello again! Thanks for ranting on a bit... that's kind of what I felt like yesterday.. hee hee hee... In answer to your questions, I've been on met since early April (like the first week in April). My official dosage is 1500 mg per day, but I actually take 2000 mg per day. The RE did not say whether or not the cysts would always be there, but he indicated that it was possible for them to be reabsorbed over time, especially if I stay on the Metformin. He says that the cysts are not bad, and that they do not actually impede ovulation (the imbalanced hormones do that by stopping egg development/preparation for release down the old fallopian tubes, hence causing partially developed eggs to become friendly little cysts!) In any case, he clarified for me, last month, that it does not matter whether or not the cysts go away, it matters whether or not a new egg can be developed and properly released into the uterus.... he seems to think that this is happening with me now and that I will be able to have periods and ovulate if I just keep taking the met..... have I babbled too much? Oh well, thanks everyone for listening....(boy do I wish I could have gone to San Diego!!!!) Hi Clara,
Is it just me, or do many doctors minimize our issues?
Ok, stupid question/remark, Yes they do! As in: Clara, you have a
blocked fallopian tube, a monster cyst on your left ovary, and your
right ovary is riddled with cysts but other than that don't worry be
happy, you are fit as a fiddle! Maybe RE's are so used to seeing "scary"
things that a few dozen cysts and a blocked tube is not that big a deal?
Ok, so this isn't going anywhere, I just had to rant a bit...
I am curious though, how long have you been on Met? What is your dosage?
Did the RE indicate whether or not the cysts would always be there? That
is something I've never seen mentioned, I know many of us have cysts,
but do they ever go away? Does anyone know? I've never had an
ultrasound, and I am kind of wondering what kind of shape my ovaries are
in...
Take care Clara, thanks for sharing and let us know what your OB-Gyn
says.
