Newly diagnosed with questions...

Hello Everyone,

I just found out this past Monday that I have PCOS. I have suspected for many years that I had it, but it is still disheartening to hear from your doctor that you may not be able to have children. My husband and I have been married for almost 10 months and we are not yet ready to have children, so as of yet, I haven't even tried to get pregnant, so I don't know if that will be a problem for me. My question is, other than treatments for infertility, what is the typical treatment for PCOS? I cannot take hormones because when I first took the birth control pill, I developed a blood clot. Are there any risks to doing nothing right now? I am relatively thin, so my doctor is not concerned with insulin issues. If I am not too concerned about hirsutism or the irregular periods, is it ok to do nothing, or am I putting myself at risk for something worse in the future? My doctor did mention spironolactone for hirsutism. What are the side effects of taking that drug?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
