FWIW -

Zone is on the more moderate end of low carbing. Some question if it should be considered low-carb at all, but it does recommend fewer carbs than the food pyramid.

I've heard from experienced low-carbers with backgrounds in biochemistry that Sears' discussion of biochemistry is not completely correct, so you may want to take it with a grain of salt. They recommend the explanations in Protein Power as being more accurate.

If the plan helps some of us, great! We can never have too many options when it comes to "diet therapy."

The Zone is by Dr. Barry Sears. It is a low-carb diet book, but he spends alot of time on explaining the body's response to food, and why low-carbing works. Dr. Sears also talks alot about Olympic and professional athletes, and the studies he did with them. I'm sure there is a 'Zone' website, I've never checked it out, but you could possibly get some info there. Good Luck with your son!
