QUESTIONS ABOUT HEAVY BLEEDING AND DIET - LONGFrom: Leigh (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 30 May 2000 22:34:53 -0500 (CDT)
hello ladies - am I glad you are here! I have not been formally diagnosed with PCOS and do not wish to be until after my insurance goes into effect at my new job. I would not want this to be considered a "preexisting condition" (Ha Ha)Since I have had symptoms since High School and not correctly diagnosed FOR LAST 11 YEARS!. Only treated with BCP. My first bout with this was when I was a Jr. in HS. Went through 2 pads in one hour and left blood on desk chair! SO SO SO EMBERASSING! HAD TO SNEAK OUT OF CLASS AFTER EVERYONE LEFT! I went approx 2 years without a period. Then, I came across CAD book and started on low carb diet. I began to lose weight and feel good. Then BAM! out of nowhere I start my period (after all of that time) Once on my period it was like my body was fighting me to go off the diet! Hard to explain but anyway, I had extremely heavy bleeding, felt nauseous every morning and night, extreme fatigue etc, felt like I could eat a horse. I eventually went off of my diet. Gained back weight! (and then some) It took me some time to realize what had happened - that my weight loss had triggered my cycle. Anyway my period lasted for 3 months straight! Heavy bleeding and clotting. I didn't go to Doc because I have exper this many times (Heavy bleeding for extended amt of time) Also no insurance yet. I began praying about it again. This time I "stumbled" onto info on internet and in HEALTHY FOR LIFE - RICHARD AND RACHEL HELLER BOOK PUB 1996. When I began reading about PCOS, I cried and cried, I had this burst of energy and hope like never before. It felt so good to finally know what the problem is. I too have the other symptoms like, hair thinning at temples, slight mustache, obesity, acne, etc. I have started back on low carb diet again only this time armed with lots of preparation. Also taking GTF Chromium. Things are going great, losing weight, lots of energy. But you guessed it , my period started again. Heavy bleeding for last two weeks. I'm wondering if this will cause anemia. Should I take iron? Will I just keep bleeding as long as I lose weight or will it finally stabilize? Is it dangerous to be losing all this blood? Oh, I read some articles on PCOS pages about blood clot problems with women with PCOS, is the blood clots a sign that I may have blood clotting elsewhere? Also is my body producing all of this blood new? Or is it just getting cleaned out in there? I don't understand this part could someone explain this to me? Am I in danger of stroke? Am I in danger of heart attack! I want to know what I'm up against. My new insurance will go into effect in August so I can start going to Docs then. THANKS FOR ANY RESPONSES!
