A Few QuestionsFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netSun, 28 May 2000 14:57:01 EDT
i have been diligently reading this board now for six days and anything else i can get my hands on about PCOS. ironically, my doc suspects this but i am not convinced. i am 35 now and did become pregnant 4-1/2 years ago after losing much weight and taking clomid for almost 9 months! my ob/gyn's "simple" conclusion back then was that i "don't ovulate". which was evident as there was never a surge detected during the month when not on clomid, then finally detected ovulation surge once midway through clomid. now, 4 years later, still no ovulation, no pregnancy. so, now hooked up with an ER, who i must say seems excellent. i have many of the symptoms of PCOS, but to me seem to not have the glaring ones most of the women here do. i am quite regular with my periods, always have been, and i can't really say i have an excessive amount of body hair, although more has shown up since my pregnancy. i do, however, share other symptoms -- overweight, acne, polycystic ovaries as evidenced by a vaginal ultrasound by my PE last tuesday, always tired, don't ovulate, infertility. sooooooo, my problem is this. i want to try all these great ideas on this board and others, like the low-carb to help with the weight, etc. but now i will be going for all those tests, like a fasting blood test next week for mainly hormones, insulin, etc. (no actual IGTT yet), and some others. do i keep it status quo for now with my eating habits or get a jump on the weight loss etc and risk skewing the test results?? also, anyone else out there have these type of symptoms without the irregular periods and hair? do these 2 items necessarily rule out PCOS? thanks for reading and any insight.............still searching................
