Re: Kids and IR--questions

I took my kids to my endocrinologist to be tested. They are currently on a multi-vitamin (dau. is on it for help with the metformin, son is on it to help with A.D.D. which may be attributed to ... you'll never guess... improper glucose metabolism!) Son also takes a B-complex which helps greatly with concentration but is designed to help with sugar metabolism. I hope he will be put on metformin in October for his health.

My daughter is on metformin because she started her period at 11 yrs, 9 months but by 12 yrs, 9 months she had not regulated. She went from the 25% to the 50% on weight between Sept. and the following April.

I do not limit their carbs because they need them for growth and they are both thin. If they were not thin, I would limit their soda pop, rice and potatoes. I would try to limit their bread. I would not limit their veggies or fruit.
