I'm sure Belle will get back to you herself, but this is what I remember her saying:

She has had both of her children tested for insulin resistance and both were IR. Her daughter is being treated with Met and has seen positive changes (even in mood). I don't remember if her son is being treated. With boys the concern is balding and short stature. The long term effects - heart disease, diabetes etc would apply to both sexes.

I have not been able to locate any pediatric research in this area, which is not surprising given that adult research is in it's infancy. My daughter is two and is already exhibiting some diabetic-type symptoms. I have a wonderful, open-minded pediatrician who is "keeping an eye" on things with me. I hope you can find the same.
