Tests that should be done?

There sure is alot of good info here, but I am starting to get confused. As far as doctors ordering tests....I understand that the IGTT and Ir should be done...are these the glucose sugar tests? I had gestational diabetes and had a 2 or 3 hour one done during my last pregnancy..(8 years ago)...It sounds like the same thing. I was able to control it with diet (but had a 10 1/2 lb baby which I had to deliver early by inducing labor) . So do these tests determine whether you are PCOS or do you need the testosterone testing as well? I have had some thyroid testing done because of cysts in them but they came back okay...(no cancer). The bottom line is...can my prevalence of cysts be an indicator of this syndrom or is it totally irrelevant? I was starting to think that it had something to do with PCOS. I have had cysts removed from my breast..diagnosed with fibrocystic disease, cysts in my thyroid...multiple nodule goiter, in my throat... thyroglossal duct cyst, and ovarian cysts. I'm still reading and learning from you all, and understand that it's a bunch of symptoms involved. What I can't seem to grasp is what exactly is it that determines whether you have this or not? I mean if you have diabetes does it mean you also have PCOS? what is it that differentiates the 2? And if you don't have diabetes...then you probably don't have it or need to get longer glucose screening?

I'm probably not the sharpest tool in the shed...and am more than likely missing something. But I really am learning alot...just not organizing what I am learning. Thanks to all
