RecordsFrom: A (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 27 May 2000 12:53:15 -0400
Just thought I'd share this... Seeing as though I have an appointment scheduled June 30 @ Bringham & Womens with a new RE, I decided that it was best to be very prepared. With that in mind, I contacted my old physician to request that I get a copy of all records/lab results. The last time I had seen her was 2/15/00...at which time I weighed 270. At that time some of her comments (from what I can read) were: "obese female, A+Ox3 (don't know what that means) , well-groomed, pleasant." For labs, the following were tested...sodium, potassium, chloride, carbon dioxide, anion gap, bood urea nap, thyroid creatinine, sgot, sgpt, cholest..all of these within normal ranges...except the carbon dioxide. She never had a comment on that...so it didn't worry me. The two I HAD to ask for...fasting glucose & insulin (this was before I knew about the GTT) were 89 & 13.9. Then printed by the lab on the lab report for the insulin was "After 72 hours of fasting, an insulin concentration greater that 6 mcIU/mL indicates insulinoma." Also goes on to state that my insulin "shows increased insulin but not proinsulin or C-peptide." Anyone know anything about these? Then I go on to read more.....only to find out that she had spoken to my last RE. My last RE told her she should perform the GTT....and suggested using Metformin or Thiglitazone (can't really read it...anyone know anything about this?? ) for treatment. Then, also noted is that Cushings may be the problem. Why wasn't I ever told about this?? Enough....I guess I'm just venting. It's really a shame that I (and many of you too) have spent $1000's of dollars trying to find "reasons" or "solutions" or whatever to no avail. I guess I can only hope that June 30 brings something more! Thanks for letting me vent! :-) Alexis
