Re: Ginger:Re:a birth control pill?-WaxingFrom: Ginger (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 13 May 2000 11:25:14 -0500 (CDT)
Ivy, I think that the theory about plucking probably also applies to waxing, because basically it is the same process. Knowing this, I shouldn't recommend it to anyone else because it may make their hair worse, but I can say that it has been the best solution for me. I also cannot afford electrolysis or any other "professional" means, so that's how I came to waxing. My mom has always shaved and I could see her stubble by the end of each day, so I was afraid to start that. I bought my wax at a beauty supply store, pretty inexpensive (maybe $4 for a container that I used about 25 times). If you try it, here's some tips: -Heat it enough so you can put on a very thin layer, but not too hot to burn yourself -Don't try to pull it off with your fingers - you can buy special strips, but I just put on a strip of tape when the wax is still wet, push it on, then grab ahold of the tape and scream as I yank it off (hee-hee) -Try to keep the wax on your skin, not your lips. Believe me it is not a good thing to rip your lip off. :) -Use a good lighted magnifying mirror or make sure your bathroom (or wherever you do it) is well lighted. It will probably take several times in each area to get all of the stragglers off. It is my obligation to warn you that this is not fun and can be quite painful. My husband knows to leave me alone when I am in the bathroom doing my "Hair Ripping Dance", accompained by an occasional "YOUCH!" "CRIPES!" and "DAMN", among other expletives. If you keep the wax warm enough so it doesn't go on too thick and use tape to help pull it off, it makes a huge difference. I used to put it on too thick and pulled it off with my fingers. Instead of having facial hair, I had bright red patches and watery eyes. Good luck to you!!!! I hope I didn't discourage you too much, but I didn't want you cussing me when you found all this stuff out on your own! :) It can't be too bad though, I've been doing it for over 3 years!
