In regards to Atkins not working...

I also had much trouble the first couple weeks. However, I wasn't one who followed the strict Induction diet. I simply cut out my carbs and ate everything else! :-) Then I did become stricter...watching veggies and everything. Nothing seemed to work. I did notice that my energy levels had increased. Even with the additional amount of energy, I still felt like crap because I wasn't losing the weight and I was never able to get into ketosis. I really believed my insulin resistance was extremely severe. That's when I took Atkins advice on L-Carnitine. I started taking 1000mg a day along with Chromium. Since, I have experienced a loss of 10-12 lbs over about 2-3 weeks! Amazing...I couldn't believe it....it was also the first time I got into ketosis (after about 5 days on the L-Carnitine). I still have the boosted energy & I feel good. My diet plan keeps me satisfied all day and I have even introduced little treats to reward myself...once in awhile! I have also cut back on my diet soda intake as I also read that artificial sweeteners have an extremely negative effect on those with severe IR. One other point worth mentioning, I have done this on my own. My last physician refused to perform a GTT....only told me my insulin & glucose levels were"normal." I decided to take the route I did because I truly believed I had severe IR.

Just another point....for those who are trying to get into ketosis and not able: if you drink water....and lots of it, this may be the reason. Too much water does not allow the ketones to appear in the urine as they should....urine is too "watered down."

Good Luck to All!! Alexis :-)
