Hi,

I tend to get wordy, so I'll try to keep this short:

In answer to your questions, Yes, I experience actual pain, mostly on one side, definitely in the area of my ovary(ies), pain comes and goes arbitrarily, though I notice it most early morning and in the evenings when I am trying to unwind. Yes, I get a lot of aches, mostly in my mid/lower back, behind my hips. I can't say that I have constant cramps, but I do have frequent cramps, though I've never been told that this is linked to my high testosterone count (which I , too, have). I am in a completely unique category of bloating.. I make a bullfrog look like an amateur... my stomach/GI tract is almost always bloated and there is almost always intense gas pressure... I live on prilosec and Pepto Bismol and chew Tums regularly, all to no avail. I even tried Bean-o... no luck. Call me "Gas station"... Skin has been oily since my early teens, though this year I had a brief bout of dryness, when I was taking phentermine for weight loss. As soon as I stopped, the oily skin came back..... SUPER DUPER OILY. Shiny. My acne is confined to my upper arms and my back.. they are minefields, but not red acne, just bumps and little white heads. Hair loss? YUP. Big time. My doctor and my hairdresser both recommended this expensive treatment for this, and I have not yet bought it, but I will probably do so this month and will let everyone know if it is worth trying... For now, I have also noticed that after having been on Spironolactone since early February and on Met since early April, my hair loss has slowed and my hair growth elsewhere has also slightly diminished. Yeah, I have tummy-hairs, too, but mine are dark (ick). Women with PCOS seem to be all over the map with regard to periods. Lots of women who have PCOS are actually regular, believe it or not! Prior to taking bcp, my periods came every 35 to 40 days. after bcp, they never returned, except for one last Christmas (what timing, I tell ya...!) Since I've been on Met, I have spotted on and off, but no real period. My doctor says that he may need to increase the dosage to induce a period... I will find out later this month. I personally am not in favor of bcp's in treatment of pcos. they seem to mask symptoms and we have no way of tracking ourselves to know if our pcos is getting worse or not... they do not really treat the root cause of the pcos.....

Anyway, as usual, my response was longer than intended.....

Hi ladies. I have a few questions for those suffering with PCOS. Please bear with me, as these questions might seem excessive. I am just SO scared, and I see the doc this Friday to check out what's going on. If you could please answer some, all or ANY of these, I would appreciate it more than you know. First of all, do any of you experience actual pain? I know discomfort, but do you have an achiness around the ovaries, the back or the groin area? How about one-sided pain...anyone with this? I have one-sided pain (my right side) and my back and groin ache a lot. Anyone with constant "cramps"? I have constant cramps which my GP blames on having too many androgens. My blood tests came back with high testosterone levels. Anyone with severe bloating? What feels like gas pressure? I experience this 100% of the time. Acne or extremely oily skin? I have both, and have had both bad for months on end. Hair loss? My once thick hair is SO thin now. It comes out at the roots, which means it is hormonal, not from treatments such as perms, coloring, etc. If you have thinning or hair loss, PLEASE share some tips about regrowth!! How about hair on the body? I have some under my navel and on my chest. It is so frustrating but it isn't dark, just peach fuzz all over. I also experience regular but short and light periods. I know that women with PCOS usually dont have periods. This confuses me. I heard about Diane-35, a bc pill that is an anti-androgen. Has anyone tried this, or on it currently? ANY input would be more than appreciated. I love you guys and Im just as frustrated you are! Being a woman is definitly not easy....
