Re: Atkins not workingFrom: Jolene (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 10 May 2000 15:39:53 -0400
Hi Sallie, I'm glad to hear the diet worked for you and your daughter, but I just wanted to let folks know that the diet is not from the Mayo Clinic, though it keeps showing up under that name: http://www.mayo.edu/about/mayo_diet.html How easy was it to keep the weight off when you went off the diet? My fear is that I'll stray from Atkins and gain back all I've lost and then some. Jolene
>>> Sallie <msarmst@ktc.com> 5/10/00 3:03:15 PM >>> Yes my oldest daughter could not lose on the Atkins plan. I lost 40 lbs on it. One thing she finally did was a diet called the Mayo Clinic diet that works. It is not unlimited food like Atkins but you do go into ketosis. It is: breakfast 2eggs no cheese 2pcs bacon 1/2 grapefruit or 1/2 small can of grapefruit juice Lunch salad with real dressing (no low fat and no sugar dressings)no croutons, cheese, carrots or tomatoes 1 serving of chicken, beef, pork or fish (no breading, sweet sauce or skin) Dinner salad again the same 1 serving of protein again 1 green low carb vegetable 1/2 grapefruit or the other half of the can from morning no snacks, lots of water, diet drinks and coffee or tea are okay no cheese, or meat in between meals eat only whats on the list but do not omit anything. keep bowels moving daily with magnesium (400-800mg) a day It is hard to go into ketosis if you are not empty. You are suppossed to do this for only two weeks but my daughter and I did it for several months. If you lose alot of water use No Salt with postassium or take potassium pills for few days.
