Re: A Ray of Hope--what to say to dr.From: Mary (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 10 May 2000 12:44:42 -0500 (CDT)
Write down your symptoms, just like you did here. And then read them. It sounds dumb, but pple get into the dr office and they are half naked and they suddenly get a little shy--even if did not mean to. When you write it down, you can intro it (say Ive been reading a lot about this syndrome and every symptom it lists I have) Then pull out your little piece of paper and tick them right off. I did this. I'm not sure what a diff. it made, since it was a new dr. -- but someone had suggested it as a way to be stronger with Drs. I figure--when you read, you are confident and talking in your most powerful, assured voice---as opposed to suddenlty trying to remember your symptoms (and some you'll forget!) in a voice that sounds like you're guessing. It's a subconscious effect. They don't mean to take you less seriously but maybe they would. So bring the list. Also, whipping out a list(!) --gee--how much more serious could you be to have been sitting home preparing a LIST? :) If I were a DR. I would certainly think twice before dismissing THAT patient's concerns... GOOD LUCK--let us know how it goes!!
