Re: A Ray of HopeFrom: Mary (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 10 May 2000 12:38:21 -0500 (CDT)
Oh, Tina! Well, here's the fact--no one knows your body better than you do. And you sound pretty convinced you have PCO--and you should TRUST that feeling. (And it sure sounds like it to me too, so you're not alone!) So if you get a crappy DR who tells you the same old garbage AGAIN THIS TIME--get a new Dr. They're not infallable you know. They may not know much about PCO--it's only in recent years been getting much attn--hence magazine article sprouting up all over. So if past Dr's didn't know about it...maybe it's b/c a lot didn't. But if your current doesn't, there's no reason in the world to stay. YOu don't want the mediocre care you'd get from him/her if they only started learning about it right this second anyway. This is what I did--found a Gen Prac. who is also an endocrinologist! Diagnosed me in like a nanasecond. And my symptoms don't even sound quite as strong as yours. Try looking in the list of Dr's on your health care plan--look up endo. dr's and cross reference them in GP section--you might get lucky. If not, maybe a women's health clinic in your area might be able to recom. someone. Or the PCO support group in your area. You can, of course, always insist on getting some bloodwork done too. Truly, if you insist--what can the dr do but say, well ok. Everyone on this forum sympathizes with what you are going through. Keep that ray of hope. THis board is really good. Use the archives to search different topics, and put "polycystic ovarian" into search engines on the web--there's a LOT to be read and a LOT of great things to try. You'll get there. <:) good luck!
