Re: A bad habit....From: Ivy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 29 Apr 2000 13:23:58 -0500 (CDT)
Also, smoking makes your platelets (components of the blood that help in clot formation) more sticky - increasing the risk of heart attack. Add that to PCOS high cholesteral, and risk of atherolscleosis (seems I would know how to spell that, we study that here, as well as blood clotting stuff) And you've got some Serious risks. I've been smoking for about 19years now. I have a patch on now. God I hate trying to quit. But I've got to. If you try to quit (Please try to quit!), about the third day after no smokes, *I* usually get depressed, what I call "feeling fragile" (look at me wrong and I might break), DON'T use that as an excuse to start smoking again!!! It doesn't help!! Put your head down and bull thru it! (as my Mom used to say, usually about cleaning my room) so, yes, I've tried to quit several times now. But this is really it, I'm prepared for the "fragile" feeling this time (wish me luck and strenght). Also, It seems I heard/read something a good while ago about cig.s having a bit of glucose in them (?), perhaps that is what "spikes" the metabolism when you smoke - surely not good for those who are IR. Didn't know that about the testosterone, though, Thanks Hollie. Please try to quit, Alexis. The patch does help, but it's still hard. but SO worth it. Good luck, Ivy
