To all of you,

No matter where you live in the U.S. or in the world, please join me in San Diego, California for the third annual International PCOSupport conference, June 1-3. This year's theme is "PCOS: A Brand New Day". The conference is specifically for patients like us who want to come together and learn more about PCOS, and how we can find the best medical, natural, and cosmetic treatment available. Plus we will have the opportunity to meet each other! It's for women just like us, who are seeking answers and support for all we face when dealing with PCOS. Attending this conference is one of the best things you can do for yourself as a PCOS patient!!!!

This is a fantastic opportunity for us to begin or continue our education about PCOS, and what this means to us. Have you had a lot of questions about PCOS? Do you wonder if you are getting the correct answers? Would you like the opportunity to be able to hear from and even meet the top PCOS researchers in the world, and to have your questions answered face-to-face? Would you like to help educate your doctor about PCOS, by bringing back information on the latest research that even he or she may be unaware of?

I encourage you to do whatever it takes to attend this conference! Believe me, it is worth every penny and every precious vacation day from work that it takes to do this!!!!. Don't feel awkward if you will be arriving all by yourself and don't know anybody. There will be a whole bunch of women there in the same boat, and PCOSupport will plan introductions and will provide "meet and greet" volunteers to help you get acquainted.

We have Dr. Sears coming, the author of the "Zone" diet series of books (the one that helped me to lose 70 pounds). We have Dr. Kingsley from MIT speaking on hair loss. We have Drs. Chang, Futterweit, Perloe, Feinberg, Legro, Newman, Corbould, Cornblum, Rasgon, Arslanian, Marshall, Taylor, Spandorfer, Sawin........ We have speakers on natural treatments including Toni Weschler, author of "Taking Charge of your Fertility". We have Dr. Redmond, the author of "The Good News about Women's Hormones". We have Elizabeth Vliet, author or "Screaming to be Heard: Hormonal Connections Women Suspect and Doctors Ignore". We have Sam Thatcher, author of the soon-to-be-released book "PCOS: The Silent Epidemic".....the list goes on.

Please take a moment to consider attending this conference. It is something that you need to do for yourself. It will change the way you approach your own medical care by providing you with the resources you need to understand and confidently manage PCOS in the years to come. And it will bring you together with others who are doing the same. It is the best investment you can make on your medical care right now - understanding what you have and what you can do about it. It will help you to prevent making uninformed decisions, or to neglect to explore available treatment options that can prevent future onset of the longer-term PCOS complications that we keep hearing about.

Now one thing I didn't mention is that this conference is also a lot of fun! The evening and meal events are filled with opportunities to get to know other women who are also looking for friendship and support. (And yes, there is a fair amount of "partying" to be done too!). There will also be plenty of women bringing spouses or partners, so bring them along if they want to learn and socialize as well (there's a discount for the second person). Plus there will be special events for teenagers through the PCOTeen program. If you have a teen daughter with PCOS, you are encouraged to attend the conference together, but then your daughter can attend the teen events on her own, and meet other girls who also share the PCOS experience. It's a fantastic opportunity for teens to make new friends! And if you are a teen reading this, well all I am going to say is hey, you are going to be in California and there will be a "beach bonfire" party away from all of us "old fogies" include din the events. So let your Mom know about this conference!!!

I am so excited about this!!! I really hope that you can all make it, and I look forward to meeting you there. The conference is really not very expensive (PCOSupport tries NOT to make any money off of this, but just to break even), but if you are in need of financial assistance, there are some scholarships available. To apply for one of these, write to me at Christine@dezarn.com with the words "conference scholarship request" in the subject line. Let me know how much you think you can afford to pay (if anything), and I will pass this on to the scholarship committee for their consideration.

The deadline for the early registration discount is May 1. This means a savings of $25.00 if you register on or before Monday. I really encourage you to do this!!! Take a look at http://www.pcosupport.org/Conference2000/index.html and let me know if you have any questions about this conference. You can register on line with a credit card, or you can print out the form and mail it in with a check (postmark before May 1 to get the early registration discount). If you don't yet know whether you can attend, that's OK too. PCOSupport will continue to accept registrations until the conference is busting at the seams!!!

See you in San Diego!!!!!

PCOSupport Conference in San Diego to Feature the Most Recent Results in PCOS Research

The PCOSA International Membership Conference, June 1 - 3 in San Diego California will Feature the most recent results available in several important areas of PCOS research. Doctors from all over the country will present the latest findings about insulin resistance, cardiovascular disease, metabolism, and mood disorders.

"We wanted to make sure that attendees of the conference will have ample opportunity to have their questions answered," said Kristin Rencher, Executive Director of PCOSA. "Several doctors will present their findings, and afterward there will be time for questions, but we'll also have panel sessions where these doctors will be available to answer additional questions."

The panels will be hosted by Dr. Ron Feinberg and Dr. Mark Perloe. Dr. Feinberg, from the Reproductive Associates of Delaware, and Yale University, will present a case study about the use of insulin sensitizers. Dr. Feinberg has been instrumental in starting a Delaware PCOSupport chapter and is very active in the PCOS and infertility research communities. Dr. Perloe, from the Atlanta Medical Center and Atlanta Reproductive Health Centre, sits on the Medical Advisory Board of PCOSA and OBGyn.net, and is a noted PCOS and infertility expert. Dr. Perloe presented his work with PCOS and the increased risk of miscarriage at the PCOSA Conference in 1999.

Noted research specialists include: Dr. Natalie Rasgon from UCLA on the preliminary results of the PCOS Mood Disorder Survey; Dr. Bernard Corenblum from the University of Calgary on cardiovascular disease, PCOS and the important link with hyperinsulinemia; Dr. Rick Legro from the Penn State College of Medicine on the latest findings of the PCOS Genetic Project; Dr. John Marshall from the University of Virginia on PCOS and puberty; Dr. Stephen Sawin from the Center for Applied Reproductive Science on Clomiphene Resistance and PCOS; and Dr. Steven Spandorfer from Cornell Medical College, on the ideal protocol for In-Vitro Fertilization and Ovulation in PCOS patients.

"The research that these doctors will speak to us about represents the cutting edge of PCOS knowledge, " says Rencher, but adds that PCOSA is also thrilled to include sessions on PCOS basics, cosmetic issues, and the much-anticipated author's circle. As the Executive Director enthusiastically notes, "We have a world-class set of speakers!"
