Adrenal problems with PCOSFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 27 Apr 2000 19:24:01 -0500 (CDT)
Every adrenal test I had at the endos turned out abnormal. I am diagnosed with hypothyroid and PCOS. The PCOS diagnosis is around two months old though I stopped having periods 10 years ago at age 21 and never knew why. I have the weight and other extreme symptons. I have been tested for cushings and my doc says that is negative however he has told me I am showing the start of adrenal insuffiencies. He also has mentioned me having Polyglandular autoimmune disorder so i suppose my adrenals could be going bad also. Several adrenal hormones were skyhigh---VMA, Catchonomines(spelling?)aldosterone, these were like 7 times the norm. My cortisol level was 5 and I know this is low. I am overweight so this makes no sense. I also am wondering about this stuff. he says its due to the severe case of PCOS I have. Also the DHEA was high too. I dont know what the ACTH was, Ill have to ask....but my adrenal scores were so bad, I got an adrenal scan done for Cushings--adrenal tumor--- which turned out nothing and one more test I forget the name of for Adrenal hyperplasia that he said turned out negative. My testosterone is high. He says all these hormones are out of whack due to severity of my PCOS. I know this is a technical question so if anyone can help i wll appreciate it.
