I'd certainly like to know more tho. I was always told that women with PCOS start their periods at the average age. I too was 13. The reason for putting women with PCOS on the pill is firstly, yes to regulate their periods, but far more importantly to prevent the progression of the disease. By inhibiting ovulation (or the PCO attempting to) less cysts will form. Even more importantly it is to shed the lining of the uterus more frequently than would naturally occur as women with this syndrome have a much higher incidence of uterine cancer. The triphasic pill you mentioned isn't usually the best choice for women with PCOS, from what I have read, we need the older higher single dose pills to prevent (or at least slow a little) this syndrome from compromising our future fertility. I would suggest you ask for a referal to an endocrinologist as unfortunately many GP's seem to lag behind the times when it comes to PCOS. Good luck Lisa
